Zenith Defy Extreme Lapis Lazuli II & Ultraviolet: 1/100th-Second Chronographs in Stone and Sapphire
Zenith Pushes Boundaries with Defy Extreme Lapis Lazuli II and Ultraviolet High-Frequency Chronographs
Zenith continues its experimental approach with two striking additions to the Defy Extreme collection: the Lapis Lazuli II in forged carbon and titanium, and the Ultraviolet in microblasted titanium with violet sapphire. Both feature the dual-escapement El Primero 9004 movement capable of measuring 1/100th of a second.
Defy Extreme Lapis Lazuli II: Natural Stone Meets Forged Carbon
The Lapis Lazuli II follows last year's steel-and-yellow-gold edition, now combining forged carbon and titanium in a 45mm case. The irregular matte carbon surfaces absorb light and emphasize the angular construction while keeping the substantial chronograph lightweight. Water resistance is 200 meters.
The openworked dial features lapis lazuli chronograph counters, with the intense blue stone and natural pyrite inclusions creating stunning contrast against the dark carbon. Yellow gold-plated applied markers and faceted hands with Super-LumiNova add another bold accent.
Defy Extreme Ultraviolet: Violet Sapphire Transparency
The Ultraviolet features a dark grey, reflection-free microblasted titanium case with a violet-tinted sapphire dial. Purple counters create a layered, almost transparent display, revealing parts of the movement underneath. This concept recalls the Defy 21 Ultraviolet of 2020, now offered within the aggressive Defy Extreme design.

El Primero 9004: Dual Escapement Mastery
The heart of both watches is the El Primero 9004 automatic calibre with its revolutionary dual-escapement architecture. The timekeeping mechanism runs at Zenith's traditional 36,000 vph (5Hz), while a second, independent escapement dedicated to the chronograph operates at 360,000 vph (50Hz) – enabling measurements to 1/100th of a second.
The central chronograph seconds hand completes one full rotation every second, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. The movement provides 50 hours of power reserve for timekeeping, with approximately 50 minutes for the chronograph function.
Interchangeable Strap System
Both models feature Zenith's interchangeable strap system. The Lapis Lazuli II comes with a black rubber strap and additional black Velcro strap. The Ultraviolet includes a violet rubber strap, microblasted titanium bracelet, and black Velcro strap.
