Test Before You Close the Case
The worst modding moment: closing the case, then discovering something doesn't work — and reopening everything. Test these five things before final assembly.
The Five Tests
- Hand clearance: advance hands through a full revolution — no rubbing on dial, markers or each other
- Date flip timing: advance past midnight — date should change cleanly between 11:55 and 12:05
- Crown functions: all positions work — winding, date set, time set
- Dial seating: no wobble, date centered in window
- Bezel action: rotates smoothly with even clicks
The Water Resistance Question
After any case opening, assume water resistance is compromised until pressure-tested. A dry pressure test confirms seals without risk. Until tested: no swimming, no showers.
Frequently Asked Questions
I closed the case and found a problem — now what?
Reopen carefully. It happens to everyone; that's why the five-test habit matters.
Where can I pressure-test?
Most watchmakers offer dry testing inexpensively. See our servicing guide.
