Fears Adds Its First Perpetual Calendar to the Core Brunswick 39 Line
WatchPro reported that Fears Watch Company has launched the Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar, the first perpetual calendar in the Bristol brand’s modern history and the most technically ambitious watch since its 2016 revival. It is a core-collection piece, not a limited run, priced at £26,950. A small number of platinum customs are available through the Custom Division at a price on application.
39mm, 9.4mm, and a five-year movement project
The cushion steel case is 39mm and 9.4mm thick—the slimmest Brunswick Fears has made—with wide polished bevels, a concave bezel, and an open caseback. Water resistance is 50 metres. The calibre is Dubois Dépraz 55115, exclusive to Fears on a Sellita SW300 base. Senior design manager Lee Yuen-Rapati told WatchPro the project took five years, partly to source components. Bridges are frosted with hand anglage and dark rhodium. The rotor is solid 18K gold engraved with the Bristol Flower. Power reserve is 47 hours.
The Silver Mink dial is frosted and coated in warm silver. Sub-dials have circular grooves and a bespoke “Bristol” numeral set drawn by Yuen-Rapati for the curved layout. A moonphase at 6 o’clock uses a black lacquer disc with two silver moons finished in charbonage; it is the brand’s first moonphase. Running seconds were omitted to keep the case thin. Display covers day, date, month, and leap-year cycle with no adjustment required until 2100.

Nicholas Bowman-Scargill, who restarted the family firm in 2016, called the perpetual calendar a personal milestone and said he did not want a short exclusive run. The watch sits with the Fears Garrick in a new Eminence Collection of hand-finished high-end pieces. Assembly is associated with the brand’s Bristol workshop.
British independents and smaller complications
A perpetual on a decorated SW300 base is how a revived British name reaches haute calendar without a fully in-house ébauche. Exclusive module plus gold rotor plus 9.4mm case is the product story. Fifty metres of water resistance is a daily-wear claim at a price that will still keep most examples indoors.
Hobbyists who want calendar functions on an NH movement usually stop at day-date, not a leap-year wheel. Movement choice is still the first decision; an NH35 vs NH36 vs NH34 guide is that fork. Dress-leaning 38–40mm cases in the Seiko world often start from Alpinist geometry rather than a cushion perpetual; an Alpinist mod overview covers bezel and dial fit at a different budget.
Fears’ news is category, not scarcity: first perpetual, first moonphase, core line, £26,950, exclusive 55115. That is a different independent tactic from a 30-piece gold skeleton or a five-piece Piaget repeater.
FAQ
Is the Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar limited? No. WatchPro said Fears added it to the permanent core collection. Platinum customs are a separate, small Custom Division offering.
What movement is inside? Dubois Dépraz 55115, exclusive to Fears, built on a Sellita SW300. Finishing includes frosting, hand anglage, and an 18K gold rotor. Reserve is 47 hours.
When does it need a date adjustment? A true perpetual calendar in this description needs none until 2100, covering day, date, month, and leap year. The moonphase is the brand’s first.
