The Escapement Leaves Abu Dhabi for a Las Vegas Collector Weekend
The Escapement, planned as a November collector festival in Abu Dhabi, is relocating to Las Vegas and resetting the calendar to 5–7 February 2027. According to WatchPro’s 27 August 2026 report, organisers cited corporate travel limits to the United Arab Emirates after the Iran conflict, not a change in the show’s brief. The event is still described as three days “for collectors, by collectors,” not as a trade salon in the Watches and Wonders mould.
Friday 5 February is booked as a VIP evening at Sphere, including a charity auction. Saturday and Sunday move to T-Mobile Arena for the exhibition, talks, comedy, the first Rubis Awards and a closing concert. Production company The Trade Group, based in Texas and previously linked to Bitcoin Miami and Pokémon championship staging in Japan, remains the operator. Ticket sales were slated to open in early September 2026.
Why the date and city changed
Abu Dhabi itself was not under attack when the move was announced. According to WatchPro, quoting organiser KingFlum, the problem was policy: brands and corporate teams still could not clear travel to the UAE. That blocked a show built around 50-odd independent names and a paid public of up to 10,000. Vegas was chosen as the largest watch-consuming market and as a venue pair that can hold a live stage plus an exhibition floor.
| Element | Abu Dhabi plan | Las Vegas plan |
|---|---|---|
| Timing | November 2026 | 5–7 February 2027 |
| VIP night | Etihad Arena complex | Sphere, Friday 5 February |
| Main show | Etihad Arena | T-Mobile Arena, Saturday–Sunday |
| General admission (published) | USD 435 | Higher; original-price code for returning buyers |
| VIP (published) | USD 1,195 | Higher; same returning-attendee protection |
| Audience target | Up to 10,000 paid | Reconfirmed against new venues |
- Existing Abu Dhabi tickets are refunded by Etihad Arena.
- Holders can request a returning-attendee code that locks the old price on the matching Vegas tier.
- Organisers are re-confirming every brand against the new weekend before publishing a final list.
- WatchPro was told the Vegas roster could run longer than the Abu Dhabi list because of U.S. market access.
Who was already on the board
Rexhep Rexhepi and Greubel Forsey were named as expected headliners. The event site already listed Czapek, Armin Strom, Biver, Romain Gauthier, Pattern Recognition, HYT, Zeitwinkel, Luca Soprana, Ming, Louis Erard and Fleming. KingFlum also cited Gérald Genta, Simon Brette, Atelier Wen, Konstantin Chaykin and Kollokium. Media names attached to promotion include Marko Koncina, Anish Bhatt, Ezzat Eid and Ales Pohl.
The live-show rule, according to the same WatchPro piece, is that brand staff will not read press releases on the main stage. Evening programming is planned around orchestral sets, a comedy night with a collector comedian, and a closing musician. That is closer to a festival than to a hall of vitrines. Collectors who use these weekends to compare construction still need the same technical filters they use at the bench; ISO claims on dive watches, for example, are laid out in why most modified divers cannot claim ISO 6425. First-time builders following indie launches through a show like this are better served by a fixed sequence than by booth lighting; that order is in the Seiko mod complete guide to platforms and a first-build sequence.
FAQ
Is The Escapement a 2026 Geneva trade fair?
No. It is a paid collector weekend, originally set for Abu Dhabi in November 2026 and now dated 5–7 February 2027 in Las Vegas.
What happens to Abu Dhabi tickets?
According to WatchPro, Etihad Arena issues refunds. Buyers can request a code that preserves the original USD 435 or USD 1,195 tier when Vegas tickets go on sale.
Why were prices expected to rise?
Organisers said venue, production and labour costs in Las Vegas sit well above the Abu Dhabi budget. Returning attendees are the group shielded at the old rate.
