How to Create a Worn bezel Pip: Aging the Luminous Dot
Why Age the Bezel Pip?
A bright white or green bezel pip on a ghost bezel looks wrong. The pip should be yellowed, cracked, or faded to match the aged bezel.
Methods
Heat Method
Bake the bezel insert at 425F for 12 minutes. This darkens the pip dramatically. Check frequently to avoid over-burning.
Coffee Staining
Dip the pip in coffee or place coffee grounds on it. Less dramatic than heat but more controllable.
Paint
Paint over the pip with cream or yellow acrylic paint. This gives the most control. Build up in thin layers.
Natural Aging
UV exposure over weeks or months. The most authentic method but takes the longest.
Combination Methods
For the most realistic results, combine methods. Heat first for base color, then coffee for texture, then UV for natural variation.
FAQ
Can I re-lume a aged pip?
Yes, with lume paste or paint. But you will lose the aged effect. Age the pip last in your build process.
